While reading a bedtime story to my daughter one evening, I realized the power of the stories we tell our children. I was brought to tears by the line “worth is not measured by the shapes of our thighs”. It was a message I needed to hear as a little girl. Reading to my daughter not only told her a narrative I wanted her to know, it also helped me repair my relationship with my body at the same time.
Books that discuss body positivity, size diversity, different abilities and medical conditions are not easily available in South Africa. Informed appetite was started to make these books easier to access.
